This week we have three chances to connect with the land and with each other.
Wednesday, October 28, 5-7pm: Broom removal at the Middle Meadow
We’ll try to finish this patch, at least the bigger broom plants. The smaller ones will have to wait until the soil is softer and they come out easily by hand.
Meet at the Douglas entrance, and please arrive on time so we can walk in together. If you’re running late, you can find us here.
Friday, October 30, 5:30-6:30pm: Spooky hike at the Hillside Natural Area
Come explore the strange side of the Hillside! Learn about poisonous plants, spot the odd things happening on the land, and discover our Mystery Box, filled with curious finds we’ve collected while tending the area. We’ll watch the sunset together, then walk back after dark under the waning gibbous moon (about 85% lit), and maybe spot a great horned owl. It’s for kids of all ages, even grown-up kids!
Please dress in layers, and wear long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy shoes.
Places are limited, so we’re giving priority to newsletter readers. Register here.
Sunday, November 1, 10am-12pm: Broom removal under the pines
We’re starting working in a new habitat, and we’ll be working here for several workparties. Meet at the bottom of the Julian Stairs (GPS: GPS: 7899-7705 Potrero Ave El Cerrito). Please arrive on time so we can walk in together. If you’re running late, you can find us here.
Special kids’ activity: a stinkwort hike in the nearby meadow.
