3 chances to work on the hill

This week, we have three opportunities to give our summer work one more push before the first rain:

  • Tomorrow, Tuesday, 10am-12pm: work party with partners

  • Wednesday, 5-7pm: broom removal + scouting

  • Sunday, 10am-12pm: broom removal at the middle meadow

Tuesday, October 13th, 10am-12pm: work party with partners
Meet at the North Entrance of Regency Court (GPS: 1590 Regency Court, El Cerrito).

We’ll be joined by Margot from Albany Hill, Urban Tilth, and the Weed Warriors from Friends of Five Creeks. It’s a chance to learn from each other’s experience while getting things done. We will thatch, remove broom, and bag invasive plants with their seeds (poison hemlock, stinkwort, bristly oxtongue, pampas grass...), all with the stunning view of the bay as our backdrop.

We will also pause to observe our most local native meadow and admire the patterns of purple needlegrass bunches, the “bones of the hills,” with annual wildflowers in between (lupines, hayfield tarweed, poppies...).

Margot’s team will be on site from 8:30am to 3pm, so if you’d like to stay longer, you are more than welcome.

Wednesday, October 14th, 5-7pm: broom removal + scouting
Meet at the South Entrance of Regency Court (GPS: 1531 Regency court, El Cerrito)

Sunday, October 18th, 10am-12pm: broom removal at the middle meadow
Meet at the Douglas entrance. Ideally, arrive on time so we can all walk in together. If you’re running late, you can find us here. Enjoy the little hike in, and the shade of the oaks while we work.
