Meet-up: Entrance of the gated road near the water tank
GPS: 7608 Potrero Avenue, El Cerrito
Every third Sunday, we host a special Family Day—a kid-friendly, community-focused gathering that adds nature-connection activities to our regular stewardship work. You’re welcome to drop in anytime between 2:00 and 5:00 pm. We wrap up with potluck-style snacks—feel free to bring something if you’d like, but there’s absolutely no pressure.
We hope to finish removing all the broom in this area and celebrate afterward.
For this specific event, we’ll also offer optional activities such as foraging pine pollen, learning how to make pine needle soda, and trimming acacia flowers for bouquets.
Activities will take place in areas with minimal poison oak (and easy to spot).
As always, birders, insect enthusiasts, and plant lovers are very welcome to join just for observation and exploration — this is extremely valuable for us to better understand the ecosystem.
Please come prepared: wear long pants and long sleeves, closed-toe shoes with good grip, a hat, and sun protection. Tools and gloves are provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
If possible, email us in advance if you can make it (friendsofthehillside@gmail.com), but we welcome last-minute drop-ins!
